Flagpoles - What you need to know
There are many reasons why you may need to buy a flagpole, whether you are buying your first flagpole or replacing an old one. There are many different types of flagpoles which come in a range of different sizes and can hold a variety of different flags. It can therefore be daunting choosing the right flagpole for you when you aren’t quite sure what you need. House of Flags offers a variety of flagpoles from GRPs to portable poles and even automotive poles; identifying why you need your flagpole and where it will be installed will make it easier for you to find the right flagpole for you.
Flagpole Planning Permission
If you are planning on buying a flagpole which will be installed permanently, you may need to apply for planning permission from your local council. Under ‘The Town and Country Planning Act 1990’ flagpoles are listed under the definition of advertisement. It is essential that you get planning permission before installing your flagpole in order to comply with regulations.
Flagpoles and Adverse Weather
If your flagpole is for external use it is important to take into account adverse weather conditions. Each of our different types of flagpoles are guaranteed to different wind speeds, and we recommend that flags should be removed when winds are higher than 25 mph.
Flagpole Diameters
Our flagpoles come in a range of thicknesses. Taller flagpoles will have a wider diameter to ensure that the flagpoles are durable and safe. We have a range of heavy duty flagpoles which can withstand strong winds. Our GRP poles are reinforced and fixed to the ground with a hinge, making them easier to install and robust in windy conditions.
Flagpole Height
When you are thinking of purchasing a flagpole it is important to consider the size of the flag which you want to fly. We offer a range of different sized flagpoles including giant freestanding poles which reach 5 meters high.
Our fixed flagpoles come in a range of different heights from 6 meters to 12 meters high, with wall mounted flagpoles ranging from 3 meters to 6 meters.
Flagpole Location
Another factor to consider when buying a flagpole is the location that the flagpole will be standing. It is important to take into consideration things such as underground pipes and overhead cables which could be dangerous when installing the flagpole and when flying flags.
