Printing Process

At House of Flags, we take pride in delivering exceptional print quality for every ECO knitted polyester custom flag.

Our entire printing process is handled in-house at our head office in Cambridgeshire, ensuring complete quality control from start to finish. This allows us to meet high production standards, and it reduces transport emissions, supporting our eco-friendly mission.

We use advanced dye sublimation printing technology, which is ideal for fabric-based displays. In this process, water-based inks are transferred into the fibres of the ECO knitted polyester using heat and pressure. The result is a full-colour print that’s both eye-catching and durable, and it’s capable of withstanding outdoor conditions without fading quickly.

As standard, we produce all our flags as mirror images. This means the design is printed on one side and shows in reverse on the other, which is the most durable and practical choice for most uses.

If your design needs to be readable from both sides, you’ll require a double-sided option, which isn’t currently available through our Webshop. However, we typically recommend mirror images for their lighter weight and longer lifespan.

For customers seeking the most sustainable option, we offer our EnhanceAir® coating as the final step in the printing process. This transparent, light-activated layer helps break down airborne pollutants, turning your flag into a passive air purifier.

Additionally, EnhanceAir® does not change the look, texture, or recyclability of your flag, making it an easy choice for environmentally conscious brands.

From preparing your artwork to delivering the finished product, our skilled team ensures your ECO knitted polyester custom flag meets the highest standards of visual impact, weather resistance, and eco responsibility.

Want to display your flag at a shopfront, corporate event, or public venue? You can trust that our printing process will help your brand shine. Explore our products today.

Installation

Installing your ECO knitted polyester custom flag is easy, thanks to our range of finishing options designed to suit different flagpoles and display setups.

For landscape flags, our standard finish is a rope and toggle, allowing quick and secure attachment to flagpoles with halyards. We can also provide alternative finishes such as eyelets, flag restraints, antifray, flag weights, flag collars, and flag clips for added stability and longevity.

For portrait flags, the standard finish is a top sleeve and eyelets, making them ideal for flagpoles with banner arms. Additional accessories and finishes, including flag restraints, antifray, weights, collars, and clips, can also be supplied to suit your needs. Please note that portrait flags with a top sleeve cannot be finished with a rope and toggle.

All our finishes are designed for secure, weather-resistant installation, helping your flag maintain its position and visual appeal even in challenging outdoor conditions. If you go for our EnhanceAir® coating, no changes are required to your installation process, so you can set up your flag as normal.

Whether you’re mounting your flag for a permanent display or preparing for a temporary event, we’ll ensure you have everything you need for an easy, reliable installation.

Printing Methods

Digitally Printed Custom Landscape Flags: Digital printing is ideal for small and medium-sized runs (1–100 flags), offering cost efficiency and fast turnaround. Our advanced printers can handle both double-sided and mirror image prints in any design or colour.

Our ECO knitted polyester custom flags are produced using advanced dye sublimation printing, a technique that creates exceptional, high-resolution graphics perfect for outdoor and indoor displays.

This method uses water-based inks, which are heat-pressed directly into the fibres of the ECO knitted polyester, creating a long-lasting, fade-resistant finish. Because the ink becomes part of the fabric rather than sitting on top of it, your flag remains flexible, lightweight, and durable even in harsh weather conditions.

As standard, we produce all flags as mirror images, meaning your design appears correctly on the front and in reverse on the back. This is the most practical and durable choice, as it keeps the flag lightweight and reduces wear, ensuring it lasts longer in outdoor use.

If you require a design that reads correctly on both sides, double-sided printing is the way to go. This involves two printed panels stitched together with a block-out layer in between.

While this gives full readability on both sides, it is heavier and generally has a shorter lifespan, so we don’t usually recommend it unless absolutely necessary. For mirror image digital printing, please contact our team.

Either way, every ECO flag is printed in-house at our Cambridgeshire facility, ensuring exceptional quality control. For an eco-friendly boost, you can also choose our optional EnhanceAir® coating, applied as the final step in the process.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What makes ECO knitted polyester different from standard polyester?
ECO knitted polyester is designed with sustainability in mind, offering the same durability, print quality, and weather resistance as our standard knitted polyester while reducing environmental impact.
Can I order my flag in any size?
Yes. We can produce your ECO knitted polyester custom flag in a range of sizes to suit your display needs, whether for small promotional use or large-scale outdoor branding.
Will my design be visible on both sides of the flag?
By default, our flags are printed as mirror images, so the design is correct on one side and reversed on the other. This method is lighter, more durable, and ideal for most uses. The alternate option is double-sided printing, which is not currently available through our Webshop.
How long will my ECO knitted polyester flag last outdoors?
With proper installation and care, our ECO knitted polyester flags are designed to withstand UK weather conditions and offer excellent colour retention over time.

Ask us about our new Pollutant eating coating which we can apply to your flags!

EnhanceAir®, Powered by PURETiTM Light-activated coating that destroys air pollution.

When applied to outdoor advertising media, EnhanceAir turns any treated material into an air purifying surface that not only enhances human health, but contributes to the fight against global warming.

  • The coating is transparent and does not impact the appearance or durability of the ad itself.
  • Typically applied as the last step in the printing process.
  • No changes are required in the installation process.
  • It does not affect the recyclability of the material.

THE SCIENCE OF ENHANCEAIR: PHOTOCATALYSIS

When UVA light energy activates the coating, it starts a chemical process that turns nearby oxygen and water vapor into two powerful cleaning agents (OH-* and O2-*)

Photocatalysis

• These two cleaning agents convert pollutants into harmless minerals and gasses.

• The active mineral is a catalyst, so it is not consumed in the process. It continues to work as long as it is on the surface and has access to humidity and light.

• The process happens only at the surface and repeats constantly to clean the surface and the air that comes in contact with it.

Car NOxWhy NOx?

Nitrogen oxides (NO and NO2) are formed during combustion. NOx is harmful in several ways:

• It irritates airways and increases susceptibility to allergens.

• It combines with other pollutants in the air to create smog, acid rain, PM2.5 and ground level ozone, which contributes to global warming.

• Increases risk of heart disease, stroke, COPD, and lung cancer.

• It has a much higher Global Warming Potential than CO2.

NOx is an indirect greenhouse gas. It does not trap heat directly, but leads to the creation of other gases, like ozone, that are greenhouse gases. It is included on the list of gases that countries report in their greenhouse gas inventories.

EnhanceAir fights climate change and improves human health by destroying NOx and other pollutants. It helps lower the greenhouse gas footprint, but not the carbon footprint.

Proven Laboratory and Real World Results

Using a test based on the ISO 22197-1 standard, we pass a fixed amount of NOx across a treated surface where the air is in contact with the surface for only 1 second on average before being replaced by new polluted air at the same concentration. The concentration of NOx is measured as it exits the chamber.
